Why Miami for a Girls’ Weekend

Miami is one of those cities where the neighborhood you stay in sets the entire tone. A South Beach weekend feels nothing like a Wynwood weekend, even though they’re 20 minutes apart. The beach, the nightlife, the food, the art scene – it’s all there, but spread across distinct pockets of the city.

We reviewed 69 Miami properties to figure out which neighborhoods actually deliver for group trips. The answer depends on what your group is after.

South Beach: The Classic

Best for: Beach days, nightlife, the full Miami experience

South Beach is the default for a reason. Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue have the restaurants, clubs, and rooftop bars that most groups are looking for. The beach is steps away. And the walkability is strong – you can go from pool to dinner to nightlife without getting in a car.

Beach access is a major advantage here. A good share of Miami properties we reviewed have direct or nearby beach access, and South Beach has the highest concentration.

Pools are practically a given in this part of Miami. The boutique hotels along Collins tend to have the most stylish pool scenes – smaller, more curated, and less resort-chaotic than the big towers.

The trade-off: South Beach is the most expensive neighborhood and the most touristy. Weekend nights can feel crowded and loud. If your group wants a quieter, more local-feeling trip, look elsewhere.

Who should book here: Groups that want the full Miami postcard – beach, nightlife, and energy.

Wynwood and Design District: The Creative Pick

Best for: Art lovers, brunch groups, daytime-oriented trips

Wynwood has transformed from an industrial warehouse district into Miami’s creative hub. The Wynwood Walls, independent galleries, craft cocktail bars, and some of the city’s best restaurants are all here. The Design District adds luxury shopping and more polished dining.

The trade-off: No beach. You’ll need a rideshare to get to the water. Nightlife exists but it’s more cocktail-bar than club. If the beach is non-negotiable, this isn’t your base.

Who should book here: Groups that want art, food, and a more local-feeling Miami experience.

Brickell: The Upscale Urban Option

Best for: Groups that want a polished, cosmopolitan vibe

Brickell is Miami’s financial district, but it’s also become a dining and nightlife destination. The rooftop bars are sleek, the restaurants are excellent, and the energy is more upscale than South Beach without being stuffy. It’s walkable within the neighborhood and a short rideshare to South Beach or Wynwood.

The trade-off: No beach access within walking distance. The neighborhood can feel corporate during the day. Weekends are when Brickell comes alive.

Who should book here: Groups that want upscale dining, rooftop bars, and a more sophisticated base.

Coconut Grove: The Relaxed Wild Card

Best for: Groups that want brunch, greenery, and a slower pace

Coconut Grove is Miami’s oldest neighborhood and its most laid-back. Tree-lined streets, waterfront parks, sidewalk cafes, and a village-like feel. It’s the opposite of South Beach’s intensity.

The trade-off: Nightlife is limited. You’ll need a car or rideshare for most evening activities. It’s best for groups where the priority is relaxing together rather than going out.

Who should book here: Groups that want a calmer base with good food and waterfront walks.

Picking the Right Neighborhood for Your Group

The decision comes down to energy level:

  • South Beach: Beach + nightlife + full Miami energy
  • Wynwood: Art + brunch + daytime social scene
  • Brickell: Upscale dining + rooftop bars + polished vibe
  • Coconut Grove: Relaxed + waterfront + brunch-focused

If a spa day is on the agenda, about a quarter of Miami properties have spa access. South Beach and Brickell have the highest concentration of spa properties.

For most girls’ trip groups, South Beach is the safest bet – it has the most options and the easiest walkability. Wynwood is the pick for groups that want something different. Brickell splits the difference between polish and convenience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about staying in Miami, answered with data from our research.

What is the best area in Miami for a girls' trip?

South Beach is the most popular pick – you get the beach, nightlife, restaurants, and walkability all in one strip. But it’s not the only option. Wynwood is better if your group is more into art, brunch, and cocktail bars. Brickell works for a more upscale, urban vibe.

How much does a Miami girls' weekend cost per person?

Budget $250-500 per person for two nights of lodging, depending on neighborhood and season. South Beach is the most expensive; Wynwood and Brickell can be more affordable. Add $75-150/day for food and drinks – Miami’s restaurant scene is excellent but not cheap. Splitting a suite or vacation rental brings per-person costs down significantly for groups of four or more.

Is South Beach or Wynwood better for a group trip?

South Beach if your group wants beach days and nightlife. Wynwood if you want street art, craft cocktails, and a more creative, daytime-oriented vibe. They’re about a 20-minute drive apart, so you can easily do both – but where you sleep determines the default energy of the trip. Most groups who prioritize nightlife choose South Beach; most who prioritize daytime activities choose Wynwood.

Do Miami hotels have rooftop pools?

Well over half of Miami’s verified properties have a pool – it’s one of the highest rates of any city we’ve reviewed. A handful have a rooftop space specifically. Pool access is practically a given in Miami, especially in South Beach and Brickell. Rooftop pools with a scene tend to be at the boutique and luxury properties.
